Then there’s the challenge of acquiring land – trying to lay a straight line across diverse landscapes and existing communities is a regulatory and logistical nightmare.
And let’s not forget capacity; can it handle the volume of passengers and freight needed to make it commercially viable and impactful on congestion? Finally, public perception and trust are huge.
People need to feel absolutely safe hurtling through a tube at incredible speeds. Despite these very real challenges, I genuinely believe it is a viable solution.
The environmental benefits, the potential to alleviate traffic gridlock, and the radical reduction in travel times are too compelling to ignore. It won’t be easy, but the long-term gains for society and the economy could be revolutionary, truly connecting us in ways we’ve only dreamed of.
